Our Story, Quality & Heritage

Our Background

Heritage & Vision

Established in 2024, Hoy Plus Trading was founded to close the gap between rural smallholder resin farmers and the sophisticated global ingredients industry.

Through our dedicated brand, Bazen Ethiopian Frankincense, we have committed ourselves entirely to sourcing, sorting, and exporting premium Gum Olibanum. By centering our logistics backbone within the core producing territories of Ethiopia, we ensure a reliable, steady supply chain for our global buyers.

Our central headquarters operate in Addis Ababa, coordinating export logistics, customs document handling, and international business partnerships. Complementing this, our primary collection and grading offices in Bahir Dar position our management team directly next to the harvesting clusters, guaranteeing source-level oversight.

Core Pillars

Specialization: Focused solely on Gum Olibanum and Ethiopian resins, not generalized spices.

Integrity: Hand-sorted crystalline purity with verified laboratory checks.

Partnership: Long-term supply security rather than quick spot-market transactions.

Ethical Commitments

Our business practices respect both the environment and the livelihoods of forest communities:

  • Fair Farm Gate Pricing: We protect local incomes, promoting economic resilience in harvesting areas.
  • Managed Tree Plots: Supporting striping rotations to allow Boswellia stands to regenerate naturally.
  • Community-First Sourcing: Sourcing entirely from smallholders, preventing commercial over-exploitation.
Social & Ecological Responsibility

Sustainability & Ethical Sourcing

Gum Olibanum is a natural forest resource harvested from fragile wild habitats. At Bazen, we understand that protecting the future of the Boswellia papyrifera species is essential for both the ecosystem and our long-term supply agreements.

Our supply chain is built on cooperative partnerships with smallholder family farms who manage sustainable wild tree plots. By providing fair, direct market pricing, we encourage farmers to protect these hardy trees from over-tapping and clear-cutting.

Every kilogram of Bazen Frankincense is sourced with care, respecting the delicate highlands and the traditional tapping knowledge of local communities.

Crystalline Verification

Quality & Traceability

We deliver more than a commodity; we provide absolute supply assurance. Our strict quality measures govern the entire lifecycle of Bazen Frankincense.

Sourcing Traceability

Every shipment is traceable back to the specific collection hub in Northern Amhara, Tigray, or Beneshangul-Gumuz, ensuring transparent origins.

100% Bark-Free Target

Multi-stage manual and sieve cleaning removes tree bark, dust, and organic contaminants. The purity we sample is the purity you receive.

Official Supervision

Our sorting, classification, and final bagging operations are supervised by a regional food health official to maintain phytosanitary standards.

Ancient Abyssinia Legacy

About Ethiopia: Sourcing Origin

Ethiopia is the definitive historical home of premium aromatic resins. Anchored in a 4,000-year legacy of global trade dating back to ancient Abyssinia, the country remains a premier African exporter of incense and gums.

The dry, mountainous terrains of the Ethiopian Highlands provide the perfect, arid habitat for the unique Boswellia papyrifera trees. The resin harvested here, known locally as Etan, possesses inherent characteristics:

  • Sweet & Citrusy: An aromatic profile containing distinct bright, woody, and lemon-like citrus notes.
  • Chemical Richness: Abundant in therapeutic terpenes and highly effective boswellic acids, making it highly sought after for global wellness brands.
  • High-Grade Yield: Dry-altitude conditions encourage the tree to bleed out a crystalline resin that hardens into pale yellow tears.

Ethiopian Etan at a Glance

"Unlike heavier resin types, B. papyrifera (Etan) from the Ethiopian Highlands stands out for its high terpene value, bright citrus notes, and therapeutic purity."

Our Sourcing Infrastructure

Bahir Dar Operational Hub

Sits closer to the northern tapping forests, managing initial cleaning, weight grading, and raw storage.

Addis Ababa Sifting & Export Facility

Handles secondary separation, fine sifting, final phytosanitary certification packaging, and container sealing.

Operational Advantage

Warehouse Visit

Our primary competitive advantage is built on domestic infrastructure. We run strategically located warehouse operations in both Bahir Dar and Addis Ababa, establishing a secure chain of custody from the tapping tree to the ocean freight container.

When raw, wild-harvested resin tears arrive at our Bahir Dar warehouse, they undergo a primary manual sorting. Dust and large organic debris are separated immediately.

The sorted resin is then moved under climate-controlled logistics to our Addis Ababa headquarters. Here, secondary grading is performed using mechanical sieves and a dedicated manual inspection crew. The tears are separated into Grades 1A, 1B, 2, and 3, sealed in 50 kg PP bags, and stored in a temperature-controlled environment, ensuring they do not merge or lose volatile oil quality prior to customs container load-out.
